Overall, i wanted this ad to not be too long. as most ads in todays society or not long.
This is ideal as it will looking shabby with people gabbling on about different perspectives the whole time. so keeping it short around the 1min mark is good.

This ad is quick and consists and gets straight to the point of what is happening in the ad. not telling exactly what this ap is, but explaining it in its own to the viewer through public/ university student opinon of the navigation ap.

This is ideal as the app is for victoria university, and if this appeals to the age group of the students studying ti will become fundamental inn the marketing industry for the app to become viral.
So intended audience is accounted for.

The music i felt as if it didn't need to be too dull, so more upbeat is key,  as the students are getting into the more technological aged era, and todays society are fulling more into the hip hop/funk/rock/techno sounded music.
so music is accounted for.

The dialog used is all important. this is the body of the ad. This explains the navigation app in its own unique way, through the people retelling what they heard, and what to find out about the nav app.
This dialog in general speak about the facts that the app has, but again in a unique fashion.
this being something that is in relation towards the viewers/ actors, and the audience intended to use the app will find understanding and or amusing. Therefore the dialog has factual information about the app, to the quircky-ness, sillyness and funny remarks of how the actors portray what they wanted to hear about the app.

I enjoyed doing this video, made me think about film a lot, and how many things influence the interaction between human and media.

I found that using animation effects for my ad is not very effective.
This is because its all real life people having conversations to each other. barely blurring at the start after an establishing shot was effective.

So i decided to not use animations as it was not correct for the format that i am going for in my video/ ad.

i have a lot of videos i wanted to show but it wont let me upload.

i put the clips together, as they would in series of a talking conversation. in some perspectives i had quick establishing shots of the group of people a bit of the park and even a bit of the boys playing soccer. this looks good for transition to next people instead of jsut cutting to the next person after everyone talks. i found this through research and look at similar ads.

I found actors, i just friends from the my hall ustay.

Thier names are:
bradley milwards, nicole jamison, jessica shaw, ashliegh berry, tom dowling, jack laing, curtis yates and cole holyoake.

we used the park 'glover park' on ghuznee street to shoot the vid.
This was ideal as it was quite windy out side, good for a nav app in wellington. birds chirping, tree noises, outside people making different noises, cars drills etc.
this all makes for a more realistic view for the vid, as if they are outside chilling  together as friends as real people would do.

I had some of them playing soccer in the background to add more emphasis on the realism of the movie. and the outer background noises to be loud.

this was a very good free music place, i had downloaded many vids and tried them out but i only used

- Horizon by SundLy.
 nice strong upbeats, but not over powering, enough to hold great interest for the viewer.

for my vid i have a group of friends that are chilling out in a park going about normal business then BOOM. one of the friends announces that they heard about a new navigation app, from where the basis of the ad starts. this will then go on to separate indivduals talking about what they heard about the ap. giving expressing depending on the statements used.

These indivduals will be filmed either talking to a group, or a singular person if they are looking and talking to them.

The shots that will cover these views, are close up shots, over the shoulder shots and panning.

when the person who know about the app comes in and starts talking, shots will be looking up at him as if the camera is one of the friends understanding him, grasping close up shots as he uses a lot of exspression and body movements to show how good this app is.

brighter parts of the video, louder sound, strong voice. looking around and nodding to everyone as if he really knows what he is talking about.
everyone in the group will have some thing to say. and something different, and mostly good things to say.
will have someone sort of opposing it, but then someone comes in as if that is irrelevant and makes that app sound even better, showing great exspression and words.

If i wanted this video of the add to be different to others, i will have to take into account the inspiration i had of the Samsung galaxy S3 ad and do a different take.

I am going to take that concept of a group of people talking about what they heard about the phone and use that for my app, and then have someone who is already familiar with the app and explains there point of view.

This point of view will ultimately going over the general feature of the app, special functions in this own unique way instead of actually telling it.

For this video i will have to find a group of people willing to be videoed.

extra factors towards making still amusing to the viewer, is having good facial expressions of the actors, with conjunction to their lines. this is emphasized with music when the people are not talking music ill be come louder keeping viewers interest.

This phone company Samsung used people to talk about there app, thourgh what they heard about it.
all the wonderfull things it has and does. even the things they didnt like. This was all done in a real quick cut scene perspectives of different people posing the differing perspectives of the samsung galaxy s3.

This is very fundamental towards my design. as i could make this real funny by the way people explained there point of views about the app, through words and body language to that of the background music.

For an ad, i didnt want to be like everyone else.
everyone seem to explain about there ap in words, or actual videos or stop motion of how it works.
i wanted to take a different take on how i will produce this as an Ad.

I want the Ad to gimmicky, funny, but also truthful.

starting off

For this project in dsdn 122, project 2b we have to do a video about your navigation app made in project 2a. 

at first i had no clue on what i was going to do for my movie. in class sessions i was confused on what to do for my project, as i still had a lot of things on my mind on other projects that were due for other classes. in saying this though, i learnt many things that i could do for my video. i found out that we could like cinematics, stop motion, actual video, walk through of the app, ad of the app, abstracting what it will be like.

Whilst in classes i wondered what to do in my clip, many other people had great ideas, and i didnt really want to copy them. 

But on that same idea, i found video to be more benefical to me, as i am a lot more confident in that instead of doing stop motion.

So i thought what can i do for a video, and the only thing that sprung to my mind was doing an Ad for the app.

Now i have to find certain colours that will correspond to certain sounds.


I went with more of elements feel so nature, water, and wind appealed to me.

so i found a wind noise, water noise and bird chripping the winds.
 these were all found on freesound.org

colours to correspond, were nature = foresty green, water= sky blue and windy gusts= redish

These sounds went perfectly into the design

with this to work i will have to have function in the draw that will interat when you mouse click.
So to make sure you dont have full control of what colour and or sound you are going to get ive made a funtion that it when mouse clicked, it will random a number between 0-4 and a number will correspond to a colour and which that colour will correpsond to a sound.

After much pondering i still wanted to keep my origonal aesthetic i had of the flowing points but some how manipulate it with something else.

so again with my last idea of manipualtion, i will take the ideas of colour and sound and produce something i could try and work out.

So with this, with the origonal interation of the flow of points following the mouse will also correspond with a change in colour will produce a certain sound that will represant that colour and imagine that idea as you move the mouse around the screen and the flow reacting with mouse the colour and the sound as a whole.

next i thought to myself i could make my code really cool with the flow points that i already have in my code. I wanted to manipulate the flow and aesthetic of the points to the corresponding input of noise into the speaker. This will be a sort of abstract flame

This will change colour and then velocity to the actual flow of the points depending how loud or soft you are talking into the speaker.

really loud noise corresponding to a white flame with the fasest velocity, changed colour to white and the flow will be very straight as if the flame is very very intense strong and hot.

next will be around talking noise level where the it will become a blue flame were it changes colour, velocity as slower than the white and is at medium pace, the flow is a lot more curvy that the white, but still ahs some straightness to it.

lastly the red flame will correspond to the least hottest flame, with a change of colour, slowesty velocity, and a very curvy flow as a real flame would do.

This code sounded good at the time, but after much debate and hitting a lot of dead ends. i decided to scrap the idea.
This was me trying to work speakers out but not happeneing.

i thought about adding in anther more interaction. so i wondered if i could have something that was always moving with the mouse, either with it, close to, a delayed reaction behind it. but none of the less, have something that would always show were the flow was going, a dictator or leader sort of thing.


intially i ahd a lot of troblue just putting in basic trail of square that would follow the mouse. first of all it didnt want to work which took awhile to inout that in with my code.
when it did decide to work, took soo long to loadwhen the screen turned up, the square became so lagged with like a 10-20sec delay when moving, and the ppoints didnt even show.

so with that i lowerd the size of the rectangle so that they were like .5- 1 pixels. This was the only way it would work with code. With these squares in the anteration made the flow of points to more really slowly and the it jsut didnt look good. plus you couldnt really define the squares due to them being so smal and taking on the sort of attributes of the flow of points

Here i ahve added more points to make flow better. does not lag as much to. soo i shall add more untill it flows better

This is how it looks like with more points, looks really great im happy with this, gives a lot more control when using the mosue movement. and it looks good filling the whole screen up, captivating your attension.

part of my interaction was changing colours just for fun, this was the first way i used to change colours. key pressing was not effective so i shall change this.

I have used a more effective way to change colours with changing my code to suit a mouse click. so it now will rget a random r, g, and b value and combine them to make a colour.

with the aesthetics i went with when mouseclicked it will invert the image and have a delayed bluredd effect when cahnging into anther colour. i found this to be very interesting and made the aesthetic that much more better

Next i wanted to see how i can develop the aesthetic of how the points will be mvoing across the screen.
so with this filters again add a blur funtion to the flow of points to blur out the trail behind its self then fade out. this looked sooo captivating giving a sort of smokey feel.

but with this made the computer slow down a bit, so you have to adjust with lowering the screen size so that the flow can still ahve its same velocity on the x and y axis, and or lowing how many points are going to be on the screen at that time.

This top image shows how the squares looked on the screen. i found that i can improve this to look more pleasing.

I changed the shapes of what was actually drawn in the screen. i found that the points were much more effective.

They moved much more naturally across the screeen, and was able to move a lot faster even with a bigger screen. This is key as i coould add in a lot more points into the interaction without the computer having to have a heart attack and slow down and lag.
this inturn can make the movements of the points to be seen more clearly as well.

From the interium presentation for dsdn 142 project three, i  presented a sort of 'wave' function that had its own velocity through the x and y axis as it travelled through the screen in a rectangle that has the width and height of the screen. this velocity had a flow function that a certain 'noise' movement inside the line of code, so it seems to move naturally then just going in random directions.

Each of these velocitys and direction of the flow is manipulated through through changing certain variables in the section of line used for that purpose.

This flow can be manipulated through follow the mouse funtions. This flow follows the mouse in its own noisey fashion with its certain veloicty. every square does not follow the mouse, and does not go exactly straight to where the mouse. when you hover the mouse in the center of the screen the squares rotate on its self.

Overall i like the interaction of design. next of is to improve the aesthetic values of the interation.

Navigation by means of getting to an end location from directions.
Navigation has always been a problem when undergoing certain tasks in certain situations. As a student of Victoria University i am always moving from one campus to the next. Kelburn campus i find to be very challenging to find my way around even at the best of times; to design a navigation system to get around kelburn campus is ideal.

For this project in design interaction, i wanted to make a special connection with the user and the people that he/she interacts with. This special connection will be implemented through this application as a network that friends can connect with each other, and interact, by means of locating where they search and setting a path to them no matter where they are.

These features involve having a person search, that enables search, favorites, and history tab.
where each of these enables you to find a certain person. Where they can choose to accept you and you then locate them. This is the same for the find class tab.

The visual effects to finding your path is a birds eye view wireframe of the buildings, that shows your position, and your search's position with different highlighted spaces. From where you can find written directions, or path tab draws the best path to the desired location.

i found that the screens will be too small to use as the phone screen is small enough as it is.

These buttons were all used in my app. i followed up with ym research of what i wanted. ( will come up in later posts as the computer wont let me upload?)

This varies from the the main titles, to  sub titles, to the text.
each one have different characteristics depending on what they are used for, scale colour brightness etc.

I wondered on how i will incorporate colours.
my last project i used vibrant colours, of lush greens and strawberry reds mixed with grey s blacks and whites. this didn't seem to be appealing.

So i have decided to go with a mixture blues, ranging in the light sky blues, with some various darker shaded blues, this corresponds with whites, grey s and blacks. how they will become effective, is how they are layed out next together, the use of empty space, with how much of one colour on its own, and then with anther layed out next to each other.

This will be consisted throughout the design, not changing the shades of colours as your move through the app.

I Found that the basic outlay of the design is most effective. i like the use of space with contrasting dark colours to light colours.
The use of the curved rectangles with some sort of detail inside proves eye catching. i will incorporate this into my design.

After my submission in the interium, i found a lot of floors, and wholes in the design, the orgionality was wrong, the effects of the colour and font was not effective, and even the idea of how it works and what makes it a good app was not upto standard. so i thought to myself and said i am going to redesign my idea.

With that in my head, i gained inspiration from facebook as i really liked the idea of being connected with friends at all times through a connection. so im taking that concept and icorporating that into my idea.

This idea will become apparent through being enrolled within Victoria university as a student and or staff, where you can be connected through thier phones, and or vic cards, and can choose to be accepted to be found, and make arrangements to be found. This is a gps system.

Features will include 3 main catorgories a customize tool, where you can changes the seetings of the app, through colours, fonts, styles, language. a timetable tab where you can check what class classes/courses that you or someone you search up, up and coming events, and a diary to take nots on memos, of when hand ins are due etc. And lastly my last catogory is the navigation tab. This tab consits  of searching up classrooms, locations, and people. where you can have favorites, and a history tab for easy acess to getting to places.

The visual way the routes are shown are visual, writen, and or a combination of both depending on preference. This is shown either on a wire frame of an eagle eyed view, highlighting where you are and where your search result is. from where you can click to calculate the best path to your end destination.

The way the particles are moving across the screen in a noisey fashion, with a certain veloicty
is how i want my images to work by moving across the scrren in that sense.


I find that perlin noise is key in working my design. again like the top iamge, the way things are moving in a nosey fashion seem for natural than that of random. all going in differnt directions and velocitys along the x and y axis.

From each they react to the mouse click, to repel the objects on the screen. in a noise fashion not going all in one direction
inspiration from open processing, i cant find it again for some reason?

but again the particles react to the movement of the mose
